Heel Spurs – Plantar Fasciitis

Heel pain, also called plantar fasciitis, is a common inflammation of the bottom of the foot that results in sharp pains in the arch and heel. Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is the connective tissue that stretches from the base of the toes across the arch to the place where it connects into the heel bone.

The most common cause of this problem is overpronation. Sometimes called heel spur syndrome, it can be treated conservatively with ice packs, anti-inflammatory drugs, exercises, orthotics, braces or physical therapy. In some instances, injections or surgery may be required. Extracorporeal shock wave treatment can be used to treat heel pain as well.
